THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS: 21ST - 25TH JANUARY 2008
From top share author MALCOLM STACEY

Hello Crazy Boys and Girls,

Are you ready for this? I'm going to stick my neck out, now. What's new? You'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now: I'm often wrong.

Though sometimes I'm right - things just happen a lot later than I thought.

Any road up, I'm sticking my neck on the tracks this time by saying that the US won't go into recession. A small slow down maybe. But not a recession. This is in defiance of most of the experts - except many of the pundits in the USA itself.

They don't think the US will go into recession. Otherwise, they would have sold loads more shares and the recession would already be under way.

Never underestimate our transatlantic cousins when it comes to money. Quite a few of them live and breathe materialism - much more than is good for them.

They work out the angles. They've already hacked their interest rate. That was a surprise to many - who don't study American money habits.

Now all they have to do - I think - is to take action to bolster the dollar. I heard someone on the radio say that he was really surprised they'd not done this already.

And to be honest gang I don't know how they would strengthen the dollar - except by pulling out of Iraq and other costly war efforts - or by slashing taxes. Or maybe both.

Anyroad up, the expert I heard on the radio said that the present world uncertainty - and it's still not a crisis in my book - would all be over if the mighty dollar was mighty again. Let's all drink to that - in the Punter's Return. God bless!
