Hello Crazy Crew,
It's been a rotten old week, really. But then again, it could have been worse.
The journalists keep talking about a possible recession in the US. My own view is that if that were the case, it would probably have happened by now.
Both the Dow and the Footsie are hardly plunging to new depths. They have been falling, but a recovery is always possible. After all, inflation here is not too bad - and I can't see how the loss of all those personal details by the tax folk can affect share prices. And yet the news seemed to wobble confidence in the Big City alright.
The run up to Christmas is often a happy time for shares - and it's a pity that all these negative things are happening at the moment. Sentiment is a very fragile thing in Crazyland - and it often suffers for no good reason. I shouldn't think England's poor show on the soccer field has helped the markets either - though again, one wonders why it should.
Any road up, I've not lost confidence in my shares. Even in the bleakest moments - and these are not as common as you might think - there are always some stocks which are bucking the trends and rising fast. It's just a question of spotting the quick risers and moving in.
And remember that it's always easier to identify the real stars when other shares are falling back. They stick out like sore thumbs.
At the same time, some stocks will be falling faster than others around them. And I am still attempting to cull these losers, while keeping hold of those falling stocks which are only trickling down - and that because of current sentiment, rather than hard financial fact.
I hope I've managed to cheer you up a bit. If not, perhaps the Punter's Return will do the trick. Rock on!
