THOUGHT FOR WEDNESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2006
From top share author MALCOLM STACEY

Greetings Crazy Galoots,

The great lesson in Crazyland is getting the timing right.

Easier said than done, of course.

Nobody knows how a share will behave. But I try this method, among others.

A share does not rise for ever. There are a few companies that trickle up very regularly. But even they pause for breath.

I expect a share to rise for no more than three days. Then I sell for a profit. I do not buy it back for some time. Even if it goes on improving for a bit.

However, if it suddenly soars away again, I will buy it back, probably in a larger quantity than before.

Let's face it, the effect of dropping out for a bit is not usually that great. It's probably only a penny or two that I've lost on each share.

But if the share does not suddenly leap forward again - and it must be admitted that most of them do not - then I have pocketed a profit. And even if the share does resume it's merry way upwards - and I am now out of it - then I will still have pocketed a profit. Which is always better than a loss. Rock on!
