Dear Crazies All,
I've already spoken this week about good news in Crazyland sometimes having a short fuse.
By this I mean that a share which shoots up on the back of some good figures on Monday, can keep on rising all week, as the penny can be slow to drop among some big investors.
However, I should now acknowledge that this is not always so. For example, I have a few National Grid (NG.L) shares. These rose like a ferret up a pipe after some very good numbers were produced on the old profit front.
So I hung onto these shares, expecting the stock to keep on trickling up for a day or two. However, they fell back 3% or so the very next day.
Why should this happen to the Grid? Well, I believe that the first day rise was so generous, given the strength of the good news, that the inevitable had to happen sooner, rather than later.
So I think I'll change my policy to - if a share rises very fast on day one, I'll sell at the end of the session. But if it only goes up a modest amount, I won't.
Let's see if that works. And now it on to... the Punter's Return!
