THOUGHT FOR WEDNESDAY 22ND NOVEMBER 2006
From top share author MALCOLM STACEY

Hello Crazy Gang,

You may agree with me that shares are generally on the up. We get a few steps back a few times a week, but gradually, oh so gradually, share prices are moving forward.

There's danger here, though. You may get the impression that it's best to sit still, do now't with your shares, and wait for them all to rise.

But shares never rise altogether. A few will falter, even in the rosiest markets. If you are left holding these damaged goods, you will lose even more money on them.

And this money, if the badly performing shares are sold, could have been used to invest in stocks which are rising with the Footsie.

In other words, gang, I do not stop selling shares just because the market as a whole is a bull market. I keep on getting rid of the losers, even more energetically than usual, actually, if the market is rising.

I need that extra dosh from the sales to punt into the better stocks. And always remember that a good stock can suddenly become a bad stock - and the other way round - whatever the state of the market: bull or bear.

And now it's time to join some other animals - down in the Punter's Return. Rock on!
