Happy holiday, Crazies, as our American cousins like to say...
Had a good year in Crazyland? I hope so. I've done nicely thanks, though not quite as well as last year which was a personal corker.
I believe that the New Year will see some really good upward action. Why?
Well, mergers which have naturally gone into limbo in this festive period, should start up again in good heart. The whole world wants to have big companies and the easiest way to grow fast is to link up with a rival.
There may even be some nice bidding wars starting up, with one or more suitors encircling several companies with household names on the British business front.
Another good reason to be cheerful about 2007 is that big profits keep being annnounced by UK giants. Figures are now more often at the top of the expected range than near the bottom of it. And that didn't appear to me to be true a year or so ago.
Also, the UK economy is growing faster than predicted by the 'experts'. And that will mean more people in work and more spending power to boost share prices.
So there we are - a happy new year for share shifters like us. Meanwhile, I hope you all remember that Christmas isn't about stocks, shares and money - and that you don't forget the real reason for the celebration. Greetings also to all those Crazies with other religions than mine. God bless!
