Why you should be buying movie memorabilia You can still buy a pair at Wal-Mart for less than $20... but Jeans have come a long way from their working class origins. No longer reserved for physical labour, denim jeans can now be found at dinner parties and in Boardrooms... in the closets of billionaires and bikers. And according to the Guinness Book of World Records the most expensive pair of jeans was the Gucci 'Genius Jeans'. Just a normal pair of jeans that had been distressed, ripped and covered in African beads... They were priced at an astonishing $3,134. Madness, I hear you cry... But if you want to be a record breaker then we have an item for you. The most expensive jeans in the world... A British rock star recently paid over $20,000 for the bicycle from the film E.T. Just yesterday a poster from the 1933 classic King Kong sold for $345,000. A velociraptor from Jurassic Park II sold for $115,000. $103,500 for Michael Keaton's Batman costume from Batman returns. Even $46,000 for the jacket and pants Bob Keeshan wore on the Captain Kangaroo television series. Why the big prices? These items are unique. They capture the public imagination. They make great displays. They offer excellent investment potential. We have the most expensive jeans in the world. Yours for $5,900. They are the film worn jeans of Steve McQueen. The 'King of Cool'. In 1967 Steve McQueen was nominated for an Oscar for playing the part of Jake Holman in 1966 film The Sand Pebbles. The film had been years in the planning. The Director, Robert Wise, had long wanted to make it but could not get studios to fund it. When he finally got funding it was a year before filming could begin. In the meantime Wise agreed a filler project, and directed the Sound of Music. The Sand Pebbles was eventually filmed in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Filming was almost abandoned due to torrential rain and other difficulties. Afterwards Steve McQueen did not work for more than a year due to exhaustion. He commented that whatever sins he had committed were paid for during the filming of The Sand Pebbles. He was the star of The Great Escape, Bullit and Papillon. But he only received one Academy Award nomination... for The Sand Pebbles. The jeans we have are from this classic film. Hand distressed by a costume designer they still have the visible oil stains as seen in the film. The interior of the jeans have the remains of the original Western Costume Company label sewn inside with most of McQueen's name still visible. You've seen the prices achieved by other pieces of film memorabilia. $5,900 for a pair of jeans worn by 'The King of Cool' seems a veritable bargain to me.
