The Playground Currency
By Adrian Roose of Stanley Gibbons

The baby boomers of the 1960s are having a huge impact on the collectibles market.

It's a proven fact, people invest in nostalgia, and the 1960s are back in vogue.

The children of the 1960s now have a disposable income to invest in their nostalgia.

We're about to show you why you should forget the housing market and dump your stocks...

Read on...

They say if you can remember the 60's, then you weren't really there.

It was the decade of Swinging London: bouffant hair and beehives, winkle pickers and mini-skirts, disco and Grease.

In the USA there was Chubby Checker and the twist, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Woodstock and Star Trek. Petrol was 39c a gallon and 'To Kill a Mockingbird' was at the top of the best sellers lists.

John F. Kennedy called on Americans to join him as they ventured into a "New Frontier," one that included the placing of a man on the moon.

They must have been great times to grow up.

And for a teenage schoolboy things got even better when Racquel Welch appeared in One Million Years B.C.

The one thing that bonded children either side of the Atlantic was 'Topps' cards.

Synonymous with baseball trading cards, Topps has a long and very rich history...

In the UK Topps' cards were issued by A&BC. The American & British Chewing Gum Company.

For One Penny you received a piece of bubble gum, plus one card, in a wax outer wrapper.

A&BC Chewing gum cards were the bartering system of British Schools.

These cards proved to be the Playground Currency...

Loved by children but hated by parents and dentists.

The gum was rock hard and would hurt your teeth, nevertheless, it would be chewed until young jaws were aching and the flavor had disappeared.

However the cards were incredibly popular, and eagerly traded at playtime.

In the 1960s A&BC started issuing cards illustrating pop groups.

The Beatles were the biggest of the lot.

They are the best selling music act of all time in the USA... in the UK they've sold over 40 number one albums and singles.

A&BC issued 60 cards with different images of The Beatles.

We have four of them. They have survived over 40 years.

No. 7 features a suited John Lennon. No. 19 is a profile picture of Ringo Starr. No. 48 is a picture of George Harrison feeding Paul McCartney ice-cream and No. 58 features a crouching Paul McCartney.

If you grew up in the 1960s then you may well remember these cards.

What makes these better
than the rest'

The four cards we have are very special.

You see, an intrepid schoolboy owner wasn't happy just owning the cards. He took it a step further.

How he did it, we don't know. But he did what few others managed...

Our enterprising schoolboy managed to get each of The Beatles to sign on the back of their respective card.

It's no mean feat.

Firstly: he had to evade their security and meet The Beatles.

Second: he had to get them to each sign their own card.

Thirdly: he needed to make sure he wasn't mugged the next time he was claiming bragging rights in the school playground.

It's a fantastic achievement.

If you're a long term subscriber to our newsletters you'll know all about The Beatles.

They are eternally popular.

John Lennon was the 3rd highest earning deceased celebrity last year. According to Forbes Magazine his estate earns $22m a year.

George Harrison is the 10th highest earning deceased celebrity.

Last year, a lock of John Lennon's hair sold for '24,000 at auction.

Look at their individual autograph prices: John Lennon's autograph is up 714.8% in the last 10 years. George Harrison up 1014%, McCartney up 1020%...

There is a worldwide demand for Beatles memorabilia. And quite simply: The Beatles, as a group, are not in a position to sign anymore. Prices can only go one way.

And on this occasion a young British schoolboy in the 1960s has done the hard work for you.

You just need to pick up the phone and this fabulous set of autographed cards can be yours.

We're confident there's probably not another set like this in the world.

You have a chance to own them today.
