Are You Share Crazy? - Dividend Magazine - Summer 2000
The www.sharecrazy.com site has recently gone live and aims to encourage private investment.
The site is the brainchild of Brighton-based businessman Alan Green who knew nothing about shares until he bought a book entitled Armchair Tycoon.
The book was a collection of hundreds of tips on how to make a killing on the stock market. It helped him to understand the market and make some successful investments.
It has also inspired him to share his new-found knowledge with potential investors.
In an attempt to demystify the stock market, visitors to the site will be shown round by a cartoon character called Joe Public.
They will be able to post comments, tips and company news for other visitors or ask questions of the site's financial experts.
The sharecrazy.com site features a live financial news service and a brief beginners' guide called 'Why buy shares?' providing information for 'first-time buyers' along with a jargon-busting glossary.
There is also a daily column written by broadcaster, journalist and author of Armchair Tycoon, Malcolm Stacey.
Visitors who click onto sharecrazy.com will also be able to use any hints they pick up by clicking directly into a low-cost online trading service offered by broker E-Cortal.
