Hackers go Crackers in Sharecrazy attack 21/3/00 Brighton Evening ArgusHACKERS brought down a Sussex website just hours after it went online. Sharecrazy.com was bombarded with emails in an attack similar to those launched against Yahoo, Amazon. com and the FBI last month. Sharecrazy. com director Alan Green said: It s indirectly flattering in one way, intensely annoying in another. Mr Green was alerted to the attack by friends who complained that they could not register on the site. He admits he is unlikely to identify the hackers. He said: I think people who perpetrate these crimes do cover themselves. Even if we find their email addresses, the chances are they would be false and lead to a false trail. I don t know anyone who would want to shut us down. The site only displayed a registration page at the time of the attack. It will not be launched until the end of this month. The full site will allow stock exchange investors to swap information. Contributions will come from private investors as well as those working in the city. A farmer and transport company owner line up alongside the professionals to provide comment and opinion. Mr Green said: I ve had considerable success as a private investor. I ve applied principles and they have worked. He aims to share this type of personal expertise through the website. Cyberhost Revenue will be created through advertising, partnership deals and selling of membership information. Mr Green has trademarked the name of the site and of its cyberhost Joe Public. A major advertising campaign has been planned but the company is still looking for venture capital funding. The prospect of making millions of pounds in a share flotation was not a motivation, said Mr Green. He said: I just believe there is a gap in the market place. www.thisisbrightonandhove.co.uk Contact the Sharecrazy Press Centre |
