‘Two pints of lager and a share trade tip’
SHARES MAGAZINE - 06/11/03

Keith Gowthorpe ShareCrazy, the popular internet share trading service prides itself on offering the most accessible and ‘jargon free’ way to buy and sell shares online. Now a Peterborough publican and long time ShareCrazy supporter has set up a ‘shares club’ where his regulars meet up to discuss share trading hints and tips.

The `shares club` has already made a number of successful trades, including buying and selling Corus for a healthy profit which was thanks to a tip given on the ShareCrazy bulletin board. The group meet each week in The Woolpack, a village pub which is run by Keith Gowthorpe. Their meetings are often fuelled with ideas taken from the Sharecrazy web site and in particular its friendly and informative bulletin board.

Keith has been a publican in Peterborough for eleven years. He first started to dabble in shares fifteen years ago. At the time, he admits that his dealing was a bit haphazard, but when he became a publican he had more time to trade shares. Keith discovered ShareCrazy two years ago and since then hasn’t looked back.

Keith Gowthorpe said: “The first thing that attracted me to ShareCrazy was that I was made to feel so welcome, no matter what my share knowledge and background. I have always enjoyed dealing with stocks and shares, although at times I found it a little hard to get my head around all the technical terms and jargon stockbrokers use. Sharecrazy has been fantastic; the people are really friendly, and they always offer their honest and helpful hints in language that people understand.”

ShareCrazy has gained a large and loyal following since its launch in 2000. It has attracted an incredibly diverse following and appeals to everyone from the share trading novice through to the experienced day trader.

The web site started life as an information platform and bulletin board for investors to exchange information. Co-director Malcolm Stacey, a journalist and broadcaster, and author of the best-selling Armchair Tycoon has been instrumental in moulding the jargon free information resource the site is today.

The web site offers a low cost share dealing service of just £9 per trade flat fee, with no quarterly charges or inactivity fees. It provides facilities and help for its members, sends out a daily shares bulletin and enables traders to share valuable tips and experiences through the popular bulletin board. Joe Public, the site’s cartoon private investor makes online trading a breeze as he guides visitors through the simple processes and cuts through the `city jargon` that can scare people off.

Alan Green, Director of ShareCrazy commented: “Investors today want information to help them make decisions to buy or sell shares in a clear, jargon free and uncluttered format. The philosophy of ShareCrazy is to give Joe Public the opportunity to bypass all of the jargon, and allow them to trade successfully without feeling out of their depth.
