‘Shares site booms thanks to 'Deckers''
WESTERN TELEGRAPH - 15/10/03
An internet site for people mad about stocks and shares is set to become the biggest venture of its kind, thanks to a new member, mysteriously known as the 'Tenby Deckchair'. Shareccrazy.com was featured in the Western Telegraph earlier in the year because it brought the Big City share trading to Tenby Harbour.
One director is Malcolm Stacey, author and former BBC Radio Four presenter who now lives in Cracknell Street. He helps to run the site, which attracts 12 million his per month, from his living room. After we featured the website, a top share trader logged on to ShareCrazy under the pen name 'Tenby Deckchair'. He or she started putting red hot share tips on the site and many of the stocks he or she discussed have shot up in price.
Now hundreds more armchair tycoons log on to the site to take advantage of the 'Deckchair's' deep research into shares. The identity of the Deckchair is a closely guarded secret. This highly successful private trader claims to be a career woman living in London. But it's thought he or she actually lives and trades somewhere in the Haverfordwest area.
Malcolm said: "The Deckchair told me that he (or she) read about us in the Western Telegraph and has been contributing to our site ever since.
"Deckers, as we affectionately call him (or her) now comes on the message board many times a day.
"No money changes hands, because we are a free site. Tenby Deckchair is extremely clued up on shares and one of his (or her) methods is to study graphs of how shares perform."
The Deckchair said the pen name was chosen because he (or she) once looked after the chairs on Tenby beach - and has fond memories of the job. Malcolm says modern technology means the site is indirectly connected to the Stock Exchange, so share fans can trade without paying exorbitant brokers' fees.
