Well im sorry to say that the market has removed the blinkers for the moment and suddenly realised we are in deep poopy doo.I can see a major fall ahead of us as there is not a hope in hell that Greece,Spain,Portugal and Ireland will get their act together. We ourselves are up the khyber to the tune of 80 billion quid,so the government will have to impose the strictest cuts that you can imagine. Why havent the city slickers and bankers who helped to fuel the fire had their collars felt in the most extreme way, simply because they are the establishment and the government is tied up with them.Crooked to the core. The money markets run our country, there is no manufacturing left and the stockmarket is the countrys number one earner. When i see city whizz kids driving around in Porches and Lamborginis when they have helped get the country in this state i see red and wonder when will someone start to clamp down on the greed of our society. How the hell can any bank including Barclays be paying out obscene bonuses to these gamblers. They are laughing at us.I understand Slaters frustration at immigrants working for less than the minimum wage, but my gripe is with the already richer than you can imagine people wanting even more.I said it sometime ago about landlords and how many houses they want.We need to start limiting the amount that any one person can own, just to give the young couples in society the chance to buy their own house. Why should some rich git from the south east buy up a whole swathe of houses from outside his or her area of abode, simply because they can afford it.Some people who work in Mcdonalds work just as hard as some of these top paid executives but will never ever be able to afford to buy their own property, largely because they are snapped from under their noses by Mr and Mrs richgit. The North/South divide has got to be evened out.A one bedroom flat down in London can be on the market for 300k yet a 4 bed detached isnt that much up here.Time for a lot more fairness in society before the peasants revolt.

Slats /Beyno...thanks for your input. You are two of a very few who I know are always around and posting, and thank goodness. But there are a number of punters out there unwilling to put their heads above the parapet, and it really is a great shame.
Perhaps it may improve as you say after the election....and I hope you are right.

Cant find a thread for Cape ciu and im sure there is one but yet again the search engine on this site defeats me so Ill post my hype here.......
2 Broker Buy notes out in the last couple of days and we are now down to a prospective P/E of just 5.4 going into 2011 which to me is completly stupid.
Dont forget we are in the Oil business services sector and should warrant at least a doubling of the present share price....................and still be cheap.
This stock is way undervalued and if we get the positive corporate news that is expected and refered to on most B/Boards then we could see a huge re- rating on this stock over the coming months (markets behaving)....

Morning MT everyone.
Good job I listened to Ian P last week. Look at that sell off.
Only had 3 stocks left in the portfolio last night and sold Hornby this morning at a small loss.
CIU and CLF remain as I think they are way way undervalued.
Looks like we will have Gordon Mandy and Nick forming a coalition so things could be rather dodgy for a while.

Blimey hadnt realised RPT had fallen so low MT.
It seems to be all of a gamble buying at the moment so I think Ill sit back for a few more days.
Hopefully this political job is sorted out (cant see it lasting long which ever combination)over the weekend.

No chance of buying any bargains from the off today. Everything just gapped up from the start.
Seems like some systems cant handle it.
Money am seems to be locked up for stock lists and SPs.

You would think we were out of the woods the way the market has gone through the roof today. It gives anyone a good chance to get out today before the inevitable fall back which i am sure will happen.Very interesting times ahead, especially in Europe.Glad im not in the market and just a spectator.

Hi Slings,
the real gains today have been made by the MMs and the brokers.
Those who held over the weekend have seen there loses shaved.
Anyone with a hit list buying in today in a lot of cases would have seen a gap up at the off and either pulled out or may have foolishly committed.
Best to wait for things to cool down and hope we get a deal in the politics one way or tuther.

Unbelievable. Economic stability is supposed to be the priority but meanwhile our politicians play politics withoutout any concern for the economy. So don't blame the UK markets if they don't like it. Not a time to invest in the FTSE, take more notice of the rest of the world responding to the Euro rescue package.

merchant capital/morgan stanley new launch. Merchant Capital launches lock-in growth plan Author: Lorraine Cushnie IFAonline| 11 May 2010 | 17:49 Categories: Structured Products Tags:Ftse 100 Merchant Capital has launched its Growth plan: Principal Lock-In, offering the opportunity of an uncapped growth payment based on the increase in FTSE 100. The five year deal returns offers 1.35 x the uncapped performance of the index at maturity. On each anniversary, if the index is at or above 110% of its initial level (the principal lock-in), the plan becomes fully capital protected. However, if index does not reach its principal lock-in level and decreases by more than 50% without recovering to its starting level, capital is at risk. Morgan Stanley is counterparty for the plan. John Gracey at Merchant Capital says: "We believe the possibility of full capital protection within this new structured growth plan is an important feature in an environment of considerable political and economic uncertainty. "Our new plan offers investors the uncapped upside on the FTSE 100 leveraged at the rate of 135%. If the FTSE 100 has increased by 10% on any of the anniversary observation dates, investors will be fully capital protected (subject to counterparty risk). The structured product has a minimum investment of £3,000, and is available until 18 June 2010. It is available as an ISA, with commission set at 3%. http://www.ifaonline.co.uk/ifaonline/news/1635911/merchant-capital-launches-lock-growth-plan
todaystheday - 12 May'10 - 06:24 - 2 of 15 edit
Dear Investor 19th April 2010 Nvesta Secure Tracker Plan 3: Indicative maturity proceeds I am pleased to advise you that the above plan is due to mature on 7th May 2010 and you will receive the full return of your investment together with a growth payment of 19% (as at the 19th April 2009). Please note that this figure is not yet final as it depends on an average measurement of the level of the FTSE™ 100 Index taken on monthly dates from the 30th October 2009 to the 30th April 2010 and so there is still one measurement to be made. We will be writing to you to confirm the maturity value along with an option pack containing current new plans we are offering. All details of these current offers can be found on our website www.merchant-capital.com/our-services/structured-products Advice We strongly recommend that you talk to your financial adviser before you decide to re-invest. If you do not currently have access to a financial adviser, and wish to receive advice, Merchant Capital would be happy to arrange for an Independent Financial Adviser to contact you. Please phone 020 7332 2205 for assistance. Should you have any further questions about any of your options please feel free to contact us on 0207 332 2218 or email us at info@merchant-capital.com. http://www.merchant-capital.com/downloads/XS0191078848-maturity-letter-warm-up.pdf PLAN MATURITIES 2010 Plan security Plan Name ISIN Issuer Final Valuation Date Bid price as of 14/04/10 Redemption Date 186 BarcSimple72 - Secure Tracker3 XS0191078848 Barclays Bank Plc 30-Apr-10 118.67% 07-May-10 191 BarcSimple80 - Secure Tracker4 XS0191208056 Barclays Bank Plc 30-Jun-10 115.92% 07-Jul-10 195 Woolwich Plan Managers XS0194613781 Barclays Bank Plc 26-Aug-10 122.83% 03-Sep-10 200 MorgStan - Secure Multi Tracker XS0200206018 Morgan Stanley 29-Oct-10 101.39% 05-Nov-10 201 BarcSimple122 - Secure Tracker 6 XS0204408131 Barclays Bank Plc 21-Dec-10 115.89% 31-Dec-10 202 BarcSimple123 - Secure Multi 2 XS0204407836 Barclays Bank Plc 21-Dec-10 http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:k3gyo2hh6KwJ:www.merchant-capital.com/our-services/plan-maturities-2010+morgan+stanley/MERCHANT+CAPITAL+LTD&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

Hi all Have just got back from 2 weeks touring Jordan and southern Syria and what great places and great people. Seems one or two things have been happening at home Anyway orders filled whilst away include buys in bp.l at 548p , ciu at 224p and pol at 3.98p. No sell orders filled not suprisingly. Also managed to sell a building plot of land (for a small profit) that I bought on a whim a few years ago on Exuma in the Bahamas that represented a bit of a dream project for a while but realistically was always going to be too expensive to realise. Will be looking to add stock on further dips although like others am nervous of the current market . M

Good morning Slater and all
Good luck with OXS Slater.
All too often I think that I have missed the boat on SP gains only to find that if I had followed my instincts and invested even after a 40% sp gain a good further gain would have been made.
Decided therefore to buy into ENEG at 22.50p depite its already meteoric SP gain

MERCATOR GOLD/MCR INSTITUTIONAL DEMAND 17TH MAY UPDATE IMMINENT........Mercator Gold raises £425,000 via placing to pursue growth opportunities
Commodity asset development company Mercator Gold (AIM: MCR) has placed 42.5 million shares to raise £425,000 to “satisfy institutional demand,” add and realise value from its existing portfolio of assets and “take advantage of opportunities as they arise".
Last month, Mercator said hat the drilling programme at its Copper Flat copper-gold-molybdenum-silver project in New Mexico had fulfilled its objectives and the company was looking to complete and independent reserve/resource update in May.
The seven hole programme for a total 5,041 feet over seven drill holes was concluded on 8 February 2010. The highlights that had not yet been reported included intersections of 44 metres at 0.46% copper, 0.024% molybdenum, 0.122 g/t (grammes per tonne) gold and 4.7 g/t silver and an intersection of 365.8 metres at 0.25% copper.
The May reserve/resource update will preceded by a final report on the pulp re-assay programme, which commenced in 2009 and concluded in April.
Copper Flat is a former producing mine with substantial infrastructure still in place. The Copper Flat deposit has historic reserves of 50.21 million short tons at an average grade of 0.45% copper, 0.1244 g/t gold, 2.053 g/t silver and 0.015% molybdenum, based on a cut-off grade of 0.23% copper.
On the basis of current historic reserves and assuming metal prices of US$3/lb copper, US$10/lb molybdenum, US$900/oz gold and US$13/oz silver, the Copper Flat project is estimated to have an NPV (net present value) of US$348 million and an IRR (internal rate of return) of 45%, assuming initial capital costs of US$115 million for the recommencement of production and a discount rate of 8%. The current price of copper is US$3.53/lb.
